Our 4th Maldives trip concluded this month, and we are pleased to share with you some thoughts and feedback from our students:

“I was particularly fascinated by how interconnected everything in the marine ecosystem is. Each organism, from the smallest fish to the largest coral structure, plays a vital role in keeping the coral reef alive. During the afternoon lessons by a marine biologist, we not only learned about the biology of corals and many interesting facts about them, but also explored all the threats coral reefs are encountering such as the rising of sea temperatures which really increased my awareness of how urgent conservation work is. These lessons were both scientific and deeply personal, shaping the way I now view environmental responsibility.” by Greta Mangialardi

“The team that guided our diving and snorkeling activities shared valuable insights, one of which really stuck with me: the sand in the Maldives is made from coral, which is why it doesn’t get hot under the sun. This is also why it’s illegal to take even dead coral home. Climate change is having a devastating impact on the habitat of over three million species of fish. This journey opened my eyes to the consequences of some of our everyday behaviors. I truly hope more people get the chance to visit such a magical place, one that has changed my perspective on the world and on human responsibility.”by Nicola Azzano

“But what made this adventure unforgettable was the fact that we were completely immersed in nature and observed the charm that that place could offer us. And above all our guides who helped us a lot in understanding how special what we were seeing was. I was particularly amazed by the charm of the coral reef, from its colors, the animals that turn around it the sound of a healthy colony. A home for many living creatures that unfortunately are endangered.” by Annachiara Cozzula
