In the PYP, we promote a high standard of behaviour and a positive atmosphere where every child is valued as an individual. We explicitly teach and reinforce the behaviours that help our community thrive. We expect everyone to act in ways that are Safe, Respectful, Responsible and Honest.
You will often see this supported through positive reinforcement, such as praise, encouragement, and constructive feedback that recognises effort, improvement and achievement. Class meetings and community gatherings also give students regular opportunities to celebrate progress and reflect on how we learn and live together.
In our PYP setting, restorative practice means we focus on relationships and learning, not simply consequences. When a problem happens, we help children name what happened, understand the impact on others, and take steps to repair relationships through guided conversations, coaching and “circle time” strategies that build empathy, communication and problem-solving skills. The goal is that students learn how to make things right and move forward as part of a caring community.
We believe that positive behaviour support works best when school and home work together. We are committed to open, timely and respectful communication with families, and we encourage parents to reach out early if they have concerns or notice changes that may be affecting their child. When challenges arise, we partner with parents to share information, align strategies and agree on next steps, so that children receive consistent messages and support from the adults around them.
