Dear MYP2 Parents,
A meaningful and thought-provoking journey through memory, history, and environmental awareness awaits our MYP2 students as they visit the Vajont area and Longarone.
This experience is designed to guide students through one of the most significant and tragic events in recent Italian history: the Vajont disaster. At the EcoCentro in Erto, students will take part in a guided visit that unfolds as both a human and scientific journey. Through personal stories, testimonies, and historical reconstruction, they will explore the emotional impact of the tragedy, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the environmental and technical factors that contributed to the event.
The visit will then continue to the Vajont dam itself, where students will have the opportunity to observe firsthand the scale and context of the disaster. Standing in the very place where these events occurred will allow them to connect knowledge with place, reflecting on the relationship between human ambition, environmental responsibility, and the consequences of decision-making.
In the afternoon, the experience will shift towards the cultural heritage of the region with a guided visit to the Museo della Pietra e degli Scalpellini. Here, students will discover the long-standing tradition of stone craftsmanship that has shaped the identity and economy of the area, offering a broader perspective on the relationship between people, land, and work.
This educational visit combines historical reflection, scientific understanding, and cultural exploration, encouraging students to think critically about the past while developing a deeper awareness of their role in shaping a more responsible future.
