As part of our ongoing effort to strengthen students’ responsibility and engagement with their learning, we are introducing a clearer policy regarding absences from summative assessments.
The aim is to ensure that assessment remains fair and meaningful for everyone, while recognising genuine and justified absences. The new policy distinguishes between justified and unjustified absences:
- With a justified absence, the student will initially receive a grade of 1, but will have the opportunity to complete the assessment upon returning to school. Students are responsible for contacting their teacher as soon as they return and arranging the retake with the School Office. If the student does not contact the teacher to organise the retake, the grade of 1 will be confirmed. One retake session per week, per year group, will be available.
- With an unjustified absence, the student will receive a grade of 1 and will not be offered a retake.
Please note that all absence requests are subject to approval or rejection by the school. We kindly ask you to provide complete and detailed information when submitting a request. Requests indicating “Family Reasons” or missing further explanation will not be considered valid, and your child will be marked as having an unexcused absence.
This approach is intended to encourage students to take ownership of their learning, attend assessments responsibly and understand that summative assessments are an important part of their academic progress.
