The MYP has proudly identified Human Rights Day (December 10th) as one of the key events this school year. In the weeks leading to this date, students will engage in a number of activities and hands-on sessions designed to support their understanding of what Human Rights are, why they are so important in the context of a global community and how we can support and advocate for them.
The first of these sessions will be an inspirational assembly led by Fernanda Hopenhaym, Human Rights UN Expert, this coming Friday, November 21st.
In this event, students will have the opportunity to go beyond the textbook, meet a UN Human Rights Council Expert. Fernanda Hopenhaym – member of the Working Group on Business and Human Rights, which is a special procedure of the Human Rights Council – will provide a rare, first-hand look into UN diplomacy. She will demystify the Human Rights mechanisms that shape global policy and governance. Students will be invited to explore the 80-year legacy of the United Nations and its continuous global impact. This inspirational talk is especially helpful for future International Relations, Law and MUN participating students. We are all looking forward to this experience!
