Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you about the first unit your children will be studying in MYP3 Science this year. We will be covering the fascinating topic of the Human Reproductive System.
This unit is a fundamental component of the MYP science curriculum, designed to provide students with a solid, scientific understanding of their own bodies and health. Our approach will be purely biological and based on a scientific foundation, ensuring the content is presented in a factual and age-appropriate manner.
The unit will cover the following topics in detail:
- Meiosis: The biological process that creates sperm cells and oocytes.
- Structure and Function: The anatomy and function of the male and female reproductive systems.
- Puberty and Sexual Maturity: The biological changes that occur during adolescence.
- Fertilisation, Pregnancy, and Childbirth: The processes from conception to birth.
- The Ovarian and Menstrual Cycles: A biological explanation of these natural cycles.
- Diseases and Hygiene: The importance of hygiene and the biological basis of diseases of the reproductive system. This will include a discussion of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and various birth control methods, with a strong focus on health, prevention, and responsible choices.
In addition to the science lessons, we are collaborating with our Wellbeing team, who will run some sessions with the students on the topic of healthy relationships.
In our mission to support our whole community, we would like to know if you are interested in participating in a workshop for parents on this topic. Please let us know if you would be interested in it by answering this form.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Ms. Bellio, Ms. Benvenuto and the Wellbeing Team
