- Unit of Inquiry Where we are in place and time: we are excited to share that in April, our Year 3 learners will take part in an engaging in-school clay workshop led by Paci Terracotte. This hands-on experience connects directly with our current Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, as we explore evidence of the past and how it helps us understand ancient civilizations. Our case study focuses on Pompeii, an extraordinary example of how everyday life was preserved through volcanic ash. From household pottery to decorative tiles, clay objects found in Pompeii offer us valuable clues about the culture, beliefs, and daily routines of people long ago. In this workshop, students will become young archaeologists and artists, using clay to recreate historical artifacts and imagine the stories they might tell. Working with clay not only brings history to life, it also nurtures creativity, strengthens fine motor skills, and supports sensory development. It is a calming, expressive medium that invites curiosity and reflection.
Logistics:
- Program: the workshop will be in-school during school hours
- What to wear: students should come dressed in old, dark clothing. While aprons will be provided, working with clay can be messy, and their clothes may get dirty
What to do if:
- My child can’t participate: if it’s either a scheduled absence or your child is sick, please inform us as soon as possible. Please note: the educational visit is effectively part of the didactic programme of the school. For this reason, we expect all students to participate.
Payment and confirmation:
- Daily trips are included in the “2025-26 daily trips” payment so no extra payment is needed for this trip.
