It has been a pleasure connecting with you this week and formally introducing the curriculum structure for MYP4 next school year.

As part of their development within the MYP, students are now required to begin making some choices about their learning. This is an important step in helping them reflect on potential future academic pathways and explore the subject areas they are most interested in pursuing further.

Please find at this link the slides used during the presentation. You may also find it helpful to review the subject overviews at the corresponding links, for MYP4 and MYP5. Kindly note that these documents refer to the current academic year. While we continuously review and refine our curriculum to ensure it remains meaningful and relevant, any changes next year will be minor and will not significantly alter the core structure of the subjects offered.

We would also like to remind families that a minimum of five students is required to run an elective. Should your child’s chosen option not be available, the school will contact you directly.

Finally, please be reassured that students will continue to be supported throughout this process by the MYP4 teaching team. They will have the opportunity to attend taster lessons next week and again after the break. These will be scheduled internally to ensure minimal disruption to regular classes.

During the session, the Heads of Department will present an overview of the subjects available in their departments, outlining key expectations, opportunities, and pathways each subject offers. This will help both you and your child make informed decisions about their DP subject choices.

Earlier this week, M5 students participated in a similar session, gaining a better understanding of the subject selection process. As part of the next steps, on Monday, February 24th, students will complete a questionnaire designed to explore their academic interests, potential career paths, and preferred countries for higher education after the Diploma.

The aim of the session is to provide valuable insights into the subject selection process within the Diploma Programme. During this informative gathering, we will delve into the key aspects of making well-informed choices, exploring available subjects, and understanding their implications for future academic and career paths. 

The session, beginning at 5 p.m., will be conducted online and recorded for your convenience.

We are thrilled to inform you that yesterday marked a significant opportunity for MYP5 students as they visited the DP building for an important event. 

The session commenced with an informative presentation on both the Diploma Programme and the Career-Related Programme. Following that, students had the chance to delve deeper into the diverse subject offerings through direct interactions with teachers and DP1 students.

Following the presentation, students were asked to take a moment to reflect on the event’s highlights and they tried to make a tentative subject choice taking into account their future aspirations. 

Recognizing the significance of this decision, we understand that family support is crucial in guiding their child’s choices. Therefore, we are delighted to provide you with the essential guide prepared by our Guidance Department which contains links to more resources by IBO and Valdo Academics on mathematics and university courses. These resources will assist both you and the students in making informed subject choices aligned with their university aspirations.

Please note that a few weeks ago students were invited to complete a survey which collects data on their subject interests and countries they are considering as possible destinations for their university studies. It is very important that you make sure your child completes the survey. 

Looking ahead, on January 29th, the IB coordinator and guidance department will deliver a presentation about subject choices to families. Students’ choices, collected by February 06, will be cross-checked with the survey’s results. A drop-in schedule in March will offer support for decisions, with final choices confirmed in May.
