PYP Workshop presentation: Navigating Pre-Adolescence

Parents of PYP4 and PYP5 students recently joined a workshop led by our School Counselor Sofia Prezzamà, exploring what it really means to support children as they enter pre-adolescence.
Together, we looked at the changes happening during this phase: from the developing brain and emotional ups and downs, to the growing importance of friendships and body awareness. Rather than seeing these behaviours as just “difficult,” parents were invited to understand them as part of a natural and important stage of growth.
The workshop offered practical strategies to support children at home, focusing on connection, communication, and emotional support. Parents explored how validation and co-regulation can help children feel understood and safe, creating the conditions for learning and growth.
A key takeaway from the session was simple but powerful: as children move toward greater independence, staying connected remains essential. Pre-adolescence is not something to fix, but a phase to navigate together.

Rocio Ortega – November 22 and December 1

In the coming weeks, Rocio Ortega, will spend two days in the PYP working with students, teachers and parents. Since the beginning of H-FARM International School, Rocio has provided emotional and parenting support as well as life coaching to students and adults in our school community in her former role as the Head of the H-IS Pedagogical Department. We’re happy to have her back with us again. If you would like to speak with Rocio while she is here, please reach out to Jane Andrews to schedule a meeting

On December 1, starting at 9:00 in the PYP Outlook, Rocio will offer a parent workshop focusing on pre-adolescence. This session will be appropriate for Y4 and Y5 parents who wish to learn more about the changes that are part of pre-adolescence and how parents can support their child throughout this important phase.
